Lemonheads History

Lemonheads candy, with its tangy and citrusy flavor, has a history that goes back several decades. This iconic candy has become a staple in the confectionery world, delighting lemon lovers with its sweet and sour taste.

Lemonheads were first introduced in 1962 by the Ferrara Candy Company, a confectionery manufacturer based in the United States. The candy was created as part of the company's effort to expand its product line and cater to a wider range of taste preferences.

The original Lemonheads were small, round candies with a hard candy shell and a tart lemon-flavored center. The combination of sweet and sour flavors made them a unique and refreshing treat. The candy's vibrant yellow color also added to its visual appeal.

Lemonheads gained popularity over the years, becoming a beloved choice among candy enthusiasts of all ages. The candy's tangy taste, portable size, and long-lasting flavor made it a go-to treat for on-the-go snacking.

In addition to the classic Lemonheads, Ferrara Candy Company introduced various other flavors and variations of the candy. These included Cherryheads, Grapeheads, Appleheads, and Orangeheads, each featuring a similar hard candy shell with a distinct fruit flavor in the center.

The Ferrara Candy Company continued to produce Lemonheads for many years, and in 2012, the company underwent a rebranding and restructuring. The company changed its name to Ferrara Candy Company and expanded its product portfolio, which included Lemonheads as one of its flagship candies.

Lemonheads have also gained popularity outside of the United States. The candy is exported to numerous countries, allowing lemon-loving individuals worldwide to savor their tangy goodness.

Over time, Lemonheads have become more than just a candy. They have become synonymous with lemon-flavored treats, often inspiring other lemon-flavored products and recipes. The distinctive flavor profile of Lemonheads has been incorporated into beverages, desserts, and even savory dishes.

Today, Lemonheads continue to be enjoyed by candy enthusiasts worldwide. They are often sold in small boxes or bags, making them a convenient snack for people on the move. The candy's tart lemon flavor and satisfying crunch provide a zesty and invigorating taste experience.

Lemonheads' enduring popularity can be attributed to their unique flavor, timeless appeal, and the nostalgic memories they evoke. Whether enjoyed individually or shared with friends, Lemonheads offer a burst of citrusy delight that has made them a beloved candy for generations.

Lemonheads Memories

When I was in high school, we had vending machines in one of the hallways. Each day, I would buy a bag of Lemonheads and secretly eat them during class even though there was a "no eating" rule. I absolutely loved them and didn't think anyone had noticed that I was eating them every day. I found out that someone had taken notice on Valentine's day.

One of my classmates, Matt, approached me just before I was about to purchase my daily stash. He told me that he had noticed how much I liked Lemonheads, and that he wanted to do something nice for me for Valentine's day. He handed me a bag, grinned, and said he hoped I had a nice day.

Of course, that is a strange gift to get for Valentine's day, but it was special to me because it was my first Valentine's gift ever. I am 31 years old now and have received much more extravagant gifts since that bag of Lemonheads, but I still have the empty bag he gave me. It's tucked away in my memory book and always brings a smile to my face when I see it. ~ Lisa from Alabama
